Hi! I’m Bill Rogan along with Andy and on
behalf of Expert Village, we’re going to talk a little bit about charging a slow hit baseball.
If it’s a rocket shot, you really don’t have time to charge it, but any ground ball you
want to charge, so you have your momentum going toward the throw, but especially a slow
hit roller you’re going to have charge, scoop, and throw all in one motion. It’s very difficult.
It takes a lot of practice. You should always know how fast the runner is. If it’s a slow
guy, you can take a little bit more time, but if it’s a really fast guy, you’re going
to have to be quick yourself. You don’t want to go so fast where you over run the ball
or make a bad throw. You want to come in, scoop it off your front foot or the left foot.
You want to scoop, come up, and throw. If you can use 2 hands, all the better. Sometimes
when you’re playing third, you may have to feel it bare handed, which is a very difficult
play to make. Andy’s going to hit some here and I’ll try and demonstrate charging the
ball. Ball comes in, scoop, and throw. Get that ball to your hand quick. Slow hit roller,
you charge, 2 hands, come up, throw. Stay low. That’s a slow hit ball.
